Reed Adolescent Center Outpatient Programs

The Program

Using a 12-step philosophy, the program is divided into three separate phases. In the first eight weeks, the staff develops an individual treatment plan addressing family, school and individual barriers to recovery. This is called the Primary Care phase with weekly individual and or group sessions that focus on disease education, identification of relapse triggers, and an introduction to the 12-steps.  Customers study lessons from a Hazelden curriculum called Adolescent Recovery and the Cannabis Youth Treatment Series published by the U. S. Department of Health and Human Services.

Following Primary Care, customers attend the Aftercare phase of the Outpatient Program during months three through six. By assessing weekly progress, attendance during the Continuing Care phase is determined by the individual counselor. For most customers, attendance will be required at least once weekly. The focus during Continuing Care is on relapse prevention and the practical application of learned recovery tools.

During the last six months customers attend weekly Peer Support Group and are welcomed to attend Community Reintegration (AA/NA) activities offered as scheduled.

Customers consent to random drug testing throughout the outpatient program. This is like insurance, proving that they’re working on being clean and sober.

The Family Program

The Outpatient Family Program is an important part of the treatment process. A licensed therapist conducts the sessions. During the Primary and Aftercare phase of the Program, family members attend sessions as arranged. They address issues such as communication, conflict, and healthy boundaries. Individual sessions with customers and their families are scheduled as needed. The goal of the Family Program is simple: to help adolescents and their families get well and realize a new vision for their future.
