Certified Teacher under the supervision of the Plainview Independent School
District located at Houston School
Co-Occurring Psychiatric
and Substance Use Disorders (COPSD)
COPSD provides services for
adults and adolescents with both mental health and substance abuse services.
It provides adjunct
services in existing mental health and substance abuse treatment programs
It targets clients with
active psychiatric and substance use disorders who require crisis resolution
and/or specialized support in treatment due to non-responsiveness resulting in
symptomatic worsening and/or disruptive behavior.
These services will address
both psychiatric and substance use disorders and provide stabilization and
engagement strategies to assist clients in benefiting from treatment.

Objectives of the Prevention Intervention Program include to:

Service Provided include:
Drug Resistance Skills: to enable young people to recognize and challenge
common misconceptions about substance use, as well as deal with peers and media
pressure to engage in substance use.
Person Self-Management Skills: to help youth and families to examine
their self-image and its effects on behavior, set goals and keep track of
personal progress, identify everyday decisions and how they may be influenced by
others, analyze problem situations,
And consider the consequences of alternative solutions before making decisions.
Parenting Skills Enhancement: services aim to teach and promote positive
parental involvement as an important protective factor that increases school
success and buffers children against later problems such as substance abuse,
violence, and risky sexual behaviors.
